As the son of a professional photographer, the late Jack Hemmy, I have always been surrounded by cameras and photographs. From the early age of     ten, I would help my father in the darkroom developing prints or on location, setting up lights   for a shoot. 

After graduating from high school, I enrolled at the Ontario College of Art from 1967-1971. Upon graduating, I worked as a graphic designer until 1978.

Upon receiving my teaching certificate from Queen's University, I taught Visual Art and Photography at the Secondary School level for twenty-eight years.

After retiring from teaching, I now have more time to focus on my own artwork. My wife and I have a passion for travelling and exploring. Throughout our adventures around the world, I have tried to capture unique moments in time and history. 

Each trip to new places, I have attempted to recreate some of the magic, the colour and the unique people through photographic images.

I am also attracted to the many  characteristics of urban living, taking photos of old and new architecture, back lanes, graffiti, market paces and cultural   neighbourhoods. I hope these images will help illustrate some of the beauty, diversity, culture  and wonder of the world and the environment around us. 

I have participated in the Scarborough Civic Centre Art Exhibitions, Toronto Contact Photography Festival, the Broken Fence Gallery, 401 Richmond Market Place Show, Toronto Art Expo, John B. Aird Gallery, The Market Gallery as well as independent galleries.
